Currently I seek to examine perceptions associated with sonship. I am especially drawn to common experiences of African American sons. In my work I explore how factors such as relationships, peer pressure, location, poverty, education, the media and advertising affect the youth. An evident infatuation with how sons develop in the absence of a father figure has manifested at the forefront in my creations. My personal voyage through a fatherless childhood amalgamated with the journeys of youth I encounter working with the Childrens Defense Fund Freedom Schools Program and serving as a public school teacher drive my creative process.
